Coming soon

We understand that students can feel overwhelmed and even underprepared for life after University, with whatever direction they decide to take. In response to this, we’ve developed PRAXIS: a tailored programme of talks, mentoring and advice delivered online that focuses on supporting their journey as graduates.

Using a sketchbook-like approach, this year's cohort will share their thoughts and developing research within our Viewing Room later this month. Watch this space!

PRAXIS forms part of our larger graduate offer that includes a summer school, talks and mentoring. Participants of the Axis Summer School are given the opportunity to apply for our tailored graduate programme, PRAXIS. If you are a University and would like to know about signing up to our graduate programme, please email Emma Copley: [email protected]

SAFEDI update

The last of our SAFEDI fellowships is a project by Sheffield-based artist, researcher, curator and lecturer Yuen Fong Ling. The Human Memorial is an exploration of alternative forms of public monument and memorial making, since Covid-19, Black Lives Matter, and the Rhodes Must Fall movements.

This project is one of six commissions as part of AHRC funded project SAFEDI (Social Art for Equality Diversity and Inclusion). SAFEDI is an AHRC fellowship led by Manchester Metropolitan University, Social Art Network, & Axis, working with social artists, marginalised communities and policy makers around the UK to rethink what inclusion in the arts means.

Greetings From The Sick Bed by Jaron Hill

The release of Greetings from the Sick Bed marks the end of Jaron’s time on the Axis Digital Residency.

To obtain the best viewing experience we recommend you use a desktop computer.

For Flashback Friday we go all the way back to 2013 to a feature we used to run called 'The Rant' where writers, artists and art professionals told us what they really thought about the art world. For Rant 95 curator and critic Noel Kelly wrote about the problematic nature of staging Manifesta 10 in St Petersburg in light of Russia's treatment of its LGBT+ community.

To celebrate International Women’s Day we’ve selected five artists for Five2Watch who have made work that reflects on women’s histories and experiences, featuring: Dawn Woolley, Lucy Wright, Angela Kennedy, Laura O Connor and Victoria Lucas.

Missed any of our online events? We sometimes record the events we've hosted and upload them to our YouTube channel. If you've missed any then catch up here. You can watch our Axis Winter Cabaret that took place just before Christmas plus three events from our recent 'Mental Health for Artists' series: Sergina's 'How are you?' lunchtime performance, Bernadette Russell's 'In Conversation on How to Be Hopeful' and Beth Pickens' 'In Conversation on Make Your Art No Matter What'.

New Art Highlights of the week includes: Alice Banfield, Susan Eyre, Lisa Pettibone and Rhiannon Lowe.
