New Art Highlights

10 - 16 February

New Art Highlights of the week includes Aaron Scott Griffin, Harlan Whittingham, Caitlin Heffernan and Lesley Guy

It's a good life if you don't weaken, 2020 by Aaron Scott Griffin

Aaron Scott Griffin

Work developed as part of my research and development project "anyone, anywhere" - a socially engaged project exploring working-class narratives.
The piece was a conscious effort to articulate the tension inherent in working-class lives. Middle- and upper-class stereotypes of the working-class often fixate on ignorance, violence, drugs or criminality. I wanted to examine the precarious nature of working-class experience through a juxtaposition of domestic imagery and industrial processes.

A Forest, 2018-19 by Caitlin Heffernan

Caitlin Heffernan

I developed the installation A Forest, after a year-long crafts in historic houses research lab at Konstfack University of Art and Design in Stockholm. The research lab worked directly with the Hallwyl Museum in Stockholm allowing artists to create new work in response to their collections.

TOT-TOT-TOTALALAZOLA!, 2020 by Lesley Guy

Lesley Guy

The NewBridgeProject Gateshead, January 2019.
Made as part of TOTALLER with Chris Fielder, Lea Torp Nielsen and Dale Holmes.

TOT-TOT-TOTALALAZOLA! Is a war cry akin to the Ancient Greek battle cry Alalazo! or Hip Hip Hurray! A clarion call to join collective action, an invitation to be part of something bigger than yourselves.
