Anna Sellen is a photographer who focusses her lens on people and places undergoing transition and change. Originally from the Far-Eastern Russia, Anna currently lives and works between the West Coast of Wales and Cambridge. Her work responds to such diverse subjects as the physical environment, identity and memory. Transition remains the common thread that embraces this diversity within her work. Anna’s approach is multi-media and often involves sound, text, moving and still images.
Her most recent work ‘Lest it should fade’ is a visual and sound reflection on the decline of the bees and their habitats worldwide. This is part of INK collective work exhibited at Diffusion festival 2021. As artist-in-residence at the Kelvedon Hatch Cold War Bunker (2020-2021), Anna uses her family’s and the bunker’s archives to explore personal and collective memories of the Cold War. Her work “Bunker Diaries” won the Shutter Hub Portfolio Award at FORMAT 2021.

I am a photographer and visual artist currently living and working between the West Coast of Wales and Cambridge. I work mainly with photography, often in combination with video, sound and text to tell stories about transitions that people and places undergo, from the changes in our physical environment to the shifting identities, belonging, family and memory.
I am an experienced trainer and workshop facilitator. I have over 15 years of experience of working with chairities and community groups. This includes delivering filmmaking and media skills workshops to young people and adults in community settings, running particiaptory action projects, supporting people to tell their stories through photography and film, and supporting community projects to evaluate their successes and learning. Throughout my diverse career, I’ve worked with different people and reached across cultures. I have experience of working sensitively and ethically with resident groups, diverse BAME, refugee, faith and other community projects and groups. My wide-ranging skills, especially in the fields of community development, engagement and research (more at https://www.linkedin.com/in/anna-sellen-a4303729/) have enriched my creative practice.
I am able to work independently and I also enjoy and value collaboration. I am a part of INK collective of 6 photogrpahers.
