This short film is assembled from 16mm photographs of locations in the North East of England and on Orkney, North East of the Scottish mainland. Some images are deliberately underexposed, many are taken in low light conditions.
The singing at the start of the piece is lines from a version (from Sir Walter Scott) of 'The Ghaist's Warning', an old Scottish translation of the Danish ballad 'Svend Dyring'. The poem, 'Arche' by Brighid Black, evokes an ancient female spirit of the land, largely forgotten, but still here, ongoing.
'Arche' was published in Echtrai Journal Edition 1 (2021).
