Camera Eats First
29th June to Sunday 4th July – ‘Camera Eats First’ – an exhibition of images created by 14 young people in Ramsgate – a project delivered by the brilliant PMH Ramsgate. These images were then handed over to me as part of the the iconography for an installation & interpretation based on the work of our participating young people, adding layers of imagery and finally printing on cloth in collaboration with Shelly Goldsmith Reader in Textiles at UCA Rochester. The work was presented as a banqueting table laid out with imaginary tableware & food. None of this is actually real – it is all an illusion – a metaphor for food consumption, for gathering to eat in the time of pandemic lockdowns, over-indulgence, food advertising and our penchant for taking photos of our food before eating. It is also a commentary on our local region of East Kent where food poverty is very much a part of the community’s experience.
