Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf is an artist and co-founder/ director/ creative producer of Infems : Intersectional Feminist Art Collective. She is of mixed european heritage and works across a range of media including painting, photography, printmaking and film.
Fontaine-Wolf’s work is primarily figurative, focusing on self-portraiture and depictions of women in her direct surroundings. Through this subjective lens Fontaine-Wolf creates an intimate exploration of the lived experiences of womanhood, both in terms of their immediate visceral reality as well as their societal implications.
Her work explores concerns around the mediated relationship to the body and self-image as experienced in contemporary digitised culture whilst drawing on themes and imagery inspired by mythology, mysticism and the occult.
The tension present in the duality of opposites as found in so much female symbolism forms an important element within Fontaine-Wolf’s working method. She uses physi-digital processes whereby traditional media and techniques are used alongside digital and experimental uses of materials. These continually feed back into each other creating multiple layers. A process of creation and destruction, using both chance and control, figuration and abstraction.
Working in this cyclical manner allows the themes of desire and mortality to play out in the working method itself, often resulting in works which are beautiful and disquieting at once.
